Design and project architect for the construction of 9 bungalows for Derwent and Solway Housing association. The houses comprise 2 bed 4 person. The houses met the Code for Sustainable Homes 3 (ie 25% better energy saving than normal Building reg compliant homes). The design was based on a shared community courtyard with robust control of outer boundary. The bungalows had large windows, solar thermal heating, rear overhanging porch areas (for drying clothes and sitting out), shared gardens with seating areas, shared parking , wheelchair accessible bathrooms with showers and a good amount of storage. The landscape was simple using grass in small humps and himalyan silver birch . Detailing was important with use of zinc facades and kitchen windows surrounds to give a high quality feel to the project. The project was design by Martin up to planning then tendered as Design and Build to Stobarts construction and Martin was novated to work on the detail design .
